Father’s Day in Thailand

December 5th marks the annual celebration for his majesty the King’s birthday and the nationwide commemoration of Father’s Day.

This year we get to celebrate in style with my wife’s parents in to visit us. We are spending some time in the south at Phuket for some rest and relaxation after Christina finished her Thai language exam.

As we celebrate in style, the country pulls out all the stops to celebrate the King’s birthday as they honor the father figure of Thailand. This year the king hopes to rally his people as he again steps to the microphone, something that he hasn’t been able to do in recent years with some health complications. He wants to pull the nation together as the country winds down from the floods that ravaged the nation over the past months. With speeches, song and fireworks, the nation comes around their king.
